Erlang Capacity Formula Generator

See how demand across a typical week translates into the people you need, then create a capacity formula you can use in your wider planning.

What It Does

Turn a familiar demand profile into a usable staffing curve.

Erlang calculations are useful at interval level, but longer-range plans often need a simpler relationship between demand and workforce. This tool uses the shape of your typical week to bridge that gap.

It calculates the staffing required at each interval, builds a capacity curve across a range of weekly demand levels and fits a formula that can be carried into a spreadsheet or planning model.

Best used for: inbound voice demand where arrival patterns, handling time and a service-level target are meaningful planning inputs.

Three Simple Steps

Use your data, check the assumptions and export the result.

01

Upload a typical week

Use a CSV containing day, interval, interval length and demand. A built-in example lets you explore the tool first.

02

Set your planning assumptions

Add average handling time, service and answer-time targets, plus productive hours per FTE.

03

Review and export

See the interval requirement, capacity curve and fitted formula, then take the formula into your wider plan.

What You Need

A representative week and a few clear service assumptions.

Demand data

One representative week of interval-level voice demand, using a consistent interval length.

Service assumptions

Average handling time, target service level and the target time in which calls should be answered.

Workforce assumption

The productive hours one FTE contributes in a week, so workload can be expressed as a workforce requirement.

Important limitation

The result reflects the week and assumptions supplied. It does not account for every operational constraint, shrinkage choice or channel type.

Questions

Before you use the tool.

No account is needed and the tool opens with example data, so you can see how it works before uploading anything.

Who is the Erlang capacity tool for?

It is for contact-centre planners who need to translate inbound voice demand into a staffing requirement for capacity or budget planning.

What format does my data need to be in?

Use a UTF-8 CSV with day, interval, interval_minutes and demand columns. All rows should use the same interval length.

Is my uploaded data retained?

No. Your upload is processed in memory during the session and is not stored by the tool.

Can I use the formula as a final staffing decision?

Treat it as a planning aid. Check that the input week is representative and review the assumptions, shrinkage and operating constraints before making a staffing or financial decision.
